A Looker Studio alternative for Search Console questions that do not fit a dashboard

Last updated: 2026-10-30

In short

Looker Studio, renamed Data Studio in April 2026, is a free report builder with a built-in Search Console connector and more than 1,400 data sources. It is the better choice for dashboards that many people look at. GSC Magic is the better choice when you want to ask a new question about your Search Console, Bing or GA4 data in Claude or ChatGPT without building a chart first.

The short answer

Google's report builder is called Data Studio again: in April 2026 Looker Studio returned to its original name, and lookerstudio.google.com redirects to datastudio.google.com. It is a no-cost, drag-and-drop tool for dashboards and reports. The Search Console connector gives you the Site Impression or URL Impression table, search types such as web, image, video, news and Discover, and lets you blend Search Console with other sources like Google Analytics or Google Ads. Reports can be shared, embedded and sent by scheduled e-mail.

The trade-off is that a dashboard answers the questions you designed it for. When a client asks something new, someone edits the report. GSC Magic works the other way round: there is nothing to design. Your AI assistant calls tools for Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, GA4 and Core Web Vitals and returns the answer, often from a ready-made report such as traffic drops or quick wins. It does not build visual dashboards you can embed or share as a live report.

Keep using it if

  • You need a branded dashboard that clients or managers open themselves, embed or receive by scheduled e-mail.
  • You blend Search Console with Google Ads, BigQuery, Sheets or other sources that GSC Magic does not read.
  • Your questions are the same every month and a fixed report answers them.
  • You want a tool with no cost for creators and viewers.

GSC Magic fits better if

  • You spend more time building and fixing charts than reading them.
  • You want answers to one-off questions, such as which pages lost clicks after an update, without a new report.
  • You want Bing Webmaster Tools data next to Search Console and GA4.
  • You already work in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want your SEO data there.
  • You want URL Inspection, sitemap checks and e-mail alerts in the same tool.

Using them together

Yes. Many teams keep a Data Studio dashboard for recurring reporting and use GSC Magic for everything the dashboard does not cover. Both read Search Console through Google's own access, so connecting one does not affect the other. A common pattern is to spot a dip in the shared dashboard, then ask your AI assistant with GSC Magic to find the pages, queries and Bing or GA4 changes behind it.

Questions

Is Looker Studio the same as Data Studio?

Yes. Google renamed Looker Studio back to Data Studio in April 2026. Existing reports keep working and the old address redirects to datastudio.google.com.

Can GSC Magic build dashboards like Data Studio?

No. GSC Magic has a dashboard with KPIs, a chart, insights and CSV export, but it is not a report builder. If you need custom visual reports, keep Data Studio.

Does GSC Magic have a Data Studio connector?

No. You can export CSV files from the GSC Magic dashboard, but there is no connector for Data Studio.

Which is cheaper?

Data Studio has no charge for creators and viewers, so it is cheaper in money. GSC Magic has a free plan for one site; the paid plans start at $19 a month and save the time you would spend building reports for one-off questions.
