A Search Console Insights alternative for when you need the why

Last updated: 2026-10-30

In short

Search Console Insights is a free, simplified report inside Google Search Console that shows clicks, impressions, top and trending pages and queries, countries and branded traffic. GSC Magic does not replace it. It connects Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to your Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and GA4 data, so you can ask follow-up questions and get period comparisons and SEO reports back.

The short answer

In June 2025 Google moved Search Console Insights into the main Search Console interface, replacing the standalone beta. The report is built for content creators and site owners who want a quick read on their Google Search performance without being data experts. It shows cards for clicks and impressions, your content and the queries leading to your site (top, trending up and trending down), top countries, branded versus non-branded traffic and clicks from other Google surfaces such as Image, Video, News and Discover. Since October 2025 it can also group similar queries using AI, on properties with a large volume of queries.

Insights is a set of fixed cards. When a card raises a question, such as why a page is trending down, you click through to the Performance report and continue by hand. GSC Magic starts at that point: your AI assistant calls tools that compare periods, inspect URLs, check Bing and look at GA4 sessions, and returns the pages and queries that explain the change. If the Insights cards already answer your questions, you do not need GSC Magic.

Keep using it if

  • You check your site now and then and the Insights cards answer what you want to know.
  • You only care about Google Search and do not use Bing Webmaster Tools or GA4.
  • You do not use an AI assistant for SEO work, or you prefer not to connect one to your data.
  • You want query groups and the AI branded classification, which GSC Magic does not offer.
  • You do not want to pay for anything or add another service.

GSC Magic fits better if

  • You keep clicking from an Insights card into the Performance report to find out why a page dropped.
  • You want Google, Bing and GA4 numbers for the same pages in one answer.
  • You use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want them to read your real Search Console data instead of screenshots or CSV files.
  • You want ready-made reports such as quick wins, content decay, cannibalization and CTR outliers.
  • You want e-mail alerts when traffic changes, or 16 months of stored history on a paid plan.

Using them together

Yes, and most people should. Insights stays free in Search Console and is a fast weekly glance at what is trending. GSC Magic reads the same Search Console account through Google's API, so nothing changes in Search Console when you connect it. A typical split: notice something in Insights, then ask your AI assistant to explain it with GSC Magic, for example "Why did /pricing lose clicks in the last 28 days, and did Bing drop too?"

Questions

Is Search Console Insights still a separate tool?

No. In June 2025 Google replaced the standalone beta with an Insights report inside the main Search Console interface. It is free, like the rest of Search Console.

Does GSC Magic show different numbers than Insights?

Both read Google Search Console data, so clicks and impressions come from the same source. Totals can still differ slightly between any two views of Search Console data, for example by date range, search type or because Google aggregates by site or by page.

Does Google already offer AI in Search Console?

Yes, in two places. Insights groups similar queries and classifies branded queries with AI, and Google is testing AI-powered configuration in the Performance report, which turns a plain-language request into filters and comparisons. Neither answers questions across Bing or GA4, which is what GSC Magic adds.

Do I need a paid plan to try GSC Magic?

No. The free plan covers one site with all read tools. New accounts also get a 7-day Pro trial without a card.
