Google Search Console, Bing and GA4 in Zed

Zed's agent can use remote MCP servers added under Settings → AI → MCP Servers. GSC Magic connects with an access token in an Authorization header, so the agent can pull search data while you edit your site.

In short

Create an access token in the GSC Magic dashboard, add a remote server with the URL https://mcp.gscmagic.com/mcp and an Authorization: Bearer header under context_servers in Zed's settings, and the Zed agent can query your Search Console, Bing and GA4 data.

Set up in 3 steps

  1. Create a GSC Magic account, connect Google, then create an access token under Connect → Access tokens (read-only is fine).
  2. In Zed open Settings → AI → MCP Servers, click Add Server and choose Add Remote Server, or run zed: open settings file and merge in the snippet below.
  3. Check that the dot next to gsc-magic is green ("Server is active"), then ask the agent to list your Search Console properties.
settings.json
{
  "context_servers": {
    "gsc-magic": {
      "url": "https://mcp.gscmagic.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer gsm_YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}

Good to know

  • Zed asks before every tool call by default (agent.tool_permissions.default = "confirm"). You can allow single read tools with keys like mcp:gsc-magic:gsc_query_analytics.
  • Servers configured in Zed are also forwarded to external agents running inside Zed.
  • On Free your agent can only read. On Pro and Agency write tools are available, and the owner can switch write mode off in Settings in one click.

What to ask once connected

  • "List my Search Console properties and the one with the most clicks last 28 days."
  • "Which queries sit in positions 4–10 with the most impressions? Suggest title changes."
  • "Compare clicks this month with last month by page and tell me what moved."
  • "Which URLs in my sitemap are not indexed, and what does the inspection say?"
  • "How many sessions came from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude last month, and to which pages?"

Troubleshooting

Zed opens a sign-in prompt instead of connecting.

Zed starts the MCP OAuth flow when a remote server has no Authorization header. Add the header from the snippet with your gsm_ token; the token is the method we document for Zed.

The indicator stays red or yellow.

Hover it for the reason. A 401 means the token is wrong, expired or revoked: create a new one and replace the whole Bearer value.

The agent ignores the tools.

Mention GSC Magic in the prompt, or create an agent profile with only the gsc-magic tools turned on, as Zed's documentation suggests.

Questions about Zed

Why a token and not OAuth?

Zed supports MCP OAuth, but GSC Magic only accepts sign-in returns to Claude, ChatGPT and apps on your own computer, and we have not confirmed where Zed returns. A read-only token works today and takes a minute to create.
